We have been in touch with the Embassy of Ireland who have honoured us with their acknowledgement, offering their support and also including a link to the “Irish Society in Uruguay”, namely UruguayIreland.com, on their Embassy’s website.
The Embassy invites us to share with them a contact list of our registered member Irish and Irish descendants in Uruguay. Such list could be useful to evaluate the Irish community in our country and help them when defining strategies, bilateral relationships, etc. and also consider members of this community on events of interest.
No information will be disclosed without prior written authority. For this reason we ask of those interested to be included in this proposal to send an e-mail, duly authorising us to share their contact details registered in Uruguay-Ireland with the Embassy of Ireland.
We appreciate you disseminate this amongst your contacts who might be interested. You should send the e-mail to info@uruguayirlanda.com with the following:
Names:
Surnames:
Irish relationship:
E-mail:
Optional -
Occupation:

Telephone:
Through this we will have the privilege of starting the first Uruguayan-Irish community officially registered at the Embassy of Ireland.

Over one hundred registered members !
|
 |
18 months after this project began we are glad to count with over one hundred registered members who have shown their interest in the community. Though slow, this registration is constant and sustained. The specific interests differ but are mainly concentrated in the following topics:
- Search of Irish ancestors and relatives
- Interest in Irish language
- Irish traditions and culture
- Intellectual and commercial exchange
The community is slowly shaping up to what it will look like. We have received several offers to support and continue developing this project which we will happily implement in due course.
We want to highlight that we have received the support from the Embassy of Ireland in Buenos Aires in the name of Ambassador Mrs. Philomena Murnaghan who has shown great interest in the Irish community in Uruguay. The Federación de Sociedades Argentino Irlandesas has also offered their support and experience which they have acquired by coordinating the activities of more than 40 Argentine-Irish Societies. Thank you Messrs. Patricio Sullivan and Dickie McAllister.

Old Christians travel to Ireland !
|
 |
In March 2008 a delegation of the Old Christians from Montevideo visited Ireland. As mentioned by Guillermo Del Cerro (Old Christian's Club) and Hugh Ryan (Skerries, Ireland) several activities took place as well as football and rugby matches between them and local teams. It proved a great opportunity to tighten the bonds between both countries.
We greet this interaction amongst both communities very positively.
